The PlacePod sensor is low power wide area network (LPWAN) compatible device which connects to LoRaWAN networks.
Gateway placement and density need special considerations due to the sensors placement on or in ground with vehicles passing over them. For PlacePod vehicle counting sensors (PlacePod VC sensor) the LoRaWAN gateway should be within 300 meters for best performance. For all PlacePod sensors a signal strength (RSSI) of at least -90 dBm is required, without a car present, and ideally each sensor is covered by two gateways.
The PlacePod sensor is gateway agnostic, it will work with any LoRaWAN gateway from any manufacturer.
PNI strongly recommends that the customer conduct a pre-installation site survey in order to determine the number of gateways required for reliable network performance. Site survey should be performed using a PlacePod sensor placed in the intended installation location and signal strength monitored on the network server.
